Ubislate 7C+ user review ( proposed aakaash 3)

With all the hype surrounding aakash tablets since the last few months my curiosity was getting bigger. but unluckily i did not get any chance to even view the tablet. I had pre-booked on the manufacturer's website but they never reverted back. meanwhile all issues and comments regarding the quality kept me apprehensive but i also marveled at its low cost.

finally a few days ago the latest version ubislate 7C+  ( will be aakash 3 if goverment accepts the product specifications and quality, so the manufacturer says "proposed  aakash 3") was out for sale on a reputed website and my curiosity got me to purchase one! very rarely do i give in to such temptations but this time i did because the CPU was 1 GHZ,capacitive touchscreen, Wi-fi and the ultimate voice calling capacity (you can use it as a mobile to send receive calls and messages and also GPRS based web browsing).

it arrived a couple of days ago...
I have not used an android based device before and so for me it will be a learning experience.
i thought let me surf the web and i will get some info about it and some reviews but i am surprised that i could not find a single review in the few minutes i spent on searching it.

so i thought that being one of the first buyers i should also be among the first to review it.
i will continue to add things as i get to learn more of the device.

first impressions....
the tablet looks good, has a nice built quality and gives a quality product look.
the capacitive screen is good and responds to touch effectively...
the device has no music or video pre-loaded so i could not check the sound quality and video playback till now. i eagerly put in my 2G sim card to see how it works as a mobile.
the tablet can not be opened like a mobile to put the sim in. there is a slot backside covered with a flap where you can insert the SIM in. Inserting it in was easy but i had a little difficulty in pulling it out as i had to literally pull it out (maybe i missed the ejector).

I was able to make a call and receive a call. first success... but i could not read any contacts from sim card
i had to dial the number. I was successful at sending out a message but i am still wondering where to look for received messages. seems it is not a practical device for calling. It's size also makes it nonviable to be used as a mobile. but i certify that yes you can make and receive a call with it.

setting up GPRS is the next big challenge...
the user manual with it is very brief and people not having experience in these type of devices are going to have some difficulty in getting a hold of it.

It weighs about 320 grams and comes with a battery charger, USB cable (USB mini to USB standard) and one more USB cable. Sadly does not come with a head phone.
Strangely i could not connect my pen drive to it. it showed usb drive as disconnected.
i don't have WI-FI connectivity at present so could not test it.

my purpose to write this is to share opinion with fellow users and to help each other in problems we may face in setting up this device as the user manual is very frugal ( few pages) and gives a very limited info about it. as i learn more about device as as time permits i would write more and would love to hear from fellow users also their experience with the device.

together we explore more.....   will come back to make this more informative...

so today is 14 December 2013 and it has been 11 months since i have been using it but sparely...

as the build quality was good  it is in the same shape as before.
have installed a few games and it works fine without a lag.
never used it for calling but yes it can be used as a phone..
my kids watch movies on it and that way it works without a hitch..
i have inserted a SD card and it works fine ( one tip if the tablet shows some booting problem remove the sd card and then boot)
battery is not very long lasting so kids have to stop playing after a few hours (good outcome of battery weakness) . the good thing is that it came pre-installed with pdf reader, some games and media playing software so you can use it right away..  some of the better ones come raw so you have to install apps on them before using them... one more thing it came with screen guard, usb cable etc.

in the last 11 months many tablets have come out in the market at competitive price points so i believe this product has lost it price advantage to a large extent.. to all prospective buyers of tablets i want to give one advice that calling feature of a tablet should not be a very important criteria because very few people would use a 7 inch tablet to make calls... its inconvenient.. and moreover they are not built for that function. at least this tablet is certainly not.

  2. dear ramakant i have not able to explore the device further due to lack of time. the main thing of interest to me is how the device fares when i use it for internet surfing which i have not been able to test on Wi-fi because presently i don't have such a connection.

I tested it on GPRS network for internet surfing. the pages opened but GPRS is very slow.
as for user manual it is very concise, that's why i thought of sharing all issues with readers.

one success i got is that my pen drive was detected after i formatted it.

  9. I received my ubisalte 7C+(Aakash 3) couple of days back. Glad to say that it has exceeded my expectations in comparision to 7c(Aakash2).
    Pros:
    Capacitive and responsive touch screen
    Elegant look
    Weight(compared to Galaxy Tab2)
Smart Phone feature(Just put the SIM and make a call)
OTG cable along with the box packing(one side-mini usb, other side female standard USB)
2 way charging(USB & electric pin AC to DC charger)
I tested to connect my 1TB WD hard disk using OTG cable and amazingly it worked. I watched a movie directly playing from my Hard disk with no external power supply.

    Cons:
    Low camera resolution
Screen resolution and display quality(bad comparable to galaxy tab, but ok compared to its price)
512 RAM (Can't expect to install a lot of heavy games or apps)
4GB internal memory(good that we can connect usb HDD or micro SD cards)

IT TOOK ALMOST A YEAR TO RECEIVE MY TAB AFTER MAKING MY PAYMENT,SO ITS MENTAL TORTURE TO PLACE ORDER ONLINE.
A MONTH BACK I RECEIVED aakash 2 which was badly scratched and screen was broken in the box pack after i sent them a notice to drag them in court. SO DON'T RELY ON SUNIL TULI(CEO,Datawind India). HE IS A CHEAT.

    Review:
Wifi- works well. A little weak compared to other tabs but works well if in range.
    GPRS- Haven't tried it yet.

Smartphone calling- Earpiece starts vibrating and sounds starts distorting because of bad earpiece. Mic is okay.

Battery - Decent. 1 day on full recharge for normal use of surfing or playing games for 1-2 hours and reading for 4-5 hours.

    Touchscreen - Nice an dresponsive

    1. Akshata, Good decision you have taken, I'm suffering once I received the Ubislate 7C+. It is not getting ON the day I received and when I complained, not getting proper reply from their customer services. Everytime they keep on telling do this, do that but nothing works. Now they are saying to send it to their Amritsar office, means I've to bear the adding courier cost also but still not sure will get the proper device. Total HEADACHE.

  26. We, in Lucknow, U.P. got this UbiSlate 7c+ (Edge) by courier from Delhi on COD and paid Rs5200. We had booked Akash 2 way back in Feb 2012, but then rejected it on reading reviews when they called to confirm address. Having a Vodafone tower close by naturally we got a Vodafone SIM for it and data cards. It is working very fine for now with our school going daughter setting up the desktop background and browsing the net.

We are not too happy with the FreeBook Reader though as we would like to find out if documents, books, etc. can be stored together elsewhere as in Windows.

It does not have Adobe pdf reader. I wonder if the same can be installed.

When not in use we put the battery on charger.

The speaker sound is very low so would need to plug in any mobile phone earplugs, but mic is okay.

Our daughter is still getting a hang of it.

Milan Routh is right. It does not have any service center in India other than maybe in Hyderabad where it is made. For the fact email to techsupport@datawind.com bounces as the box is full.

Its screen resolution is poor, but then it is great for reading text like reading free books.

  33. The customer support team and technical support team is awful. I had given my tablet for service at their specified centre in Bangalore. They were unable to fix the problem since they did not get the faulty part from Delhi. Its been nearing a month and I still have not got the phone. Repeated calls to their customer care number goes unanswered and even they answer, they only mislead and give wrong information. Do not buy this tablet - its only advantage is it is cheap - the product as such is awful and you will not get any support from the Company.
